Mozilla releases Firefox 4 for Android

Bangalore: Just after a week from the launch of its Firefox 4,Mozilla released the final version of Firefox 4 for Android users.Mozilla has also released a version for Maemo. 

The android version of the browser is available from Google's Android market and the Maemo can be downloaded from Mozilla. Both Android and Maemo versions incorporate many features available in the desktop version of Firefox 4 and is offered in 13 languages.

The mobile version of Firefox 4 has features such as the synchronization service that lets users synchronize browser data across multiple devices for things like open tabs, bookmarks, history, passwords etc. Executives clarified that the process is secure as the data encryption is done via a 26-character key.

"Firefox for mobile allows users to take the Firefox experience they love everywhere and minimizes typing with features like tabbed browsing, bookmarks, add-ons and Firefox Sync," said a Mozilla blog post.

The open source outfit claimed that Firefox is up to three times faster than the stock Android browser. The mobile version of the browser also offers Mozilla's new JagerMonkey extension to its JavaScript engine.

With the mobile Firefox 4, users can save PDF for offline viewing, enables them to share via social-networking sites, and offers a customizable search engine list.

Firefox 4 is a free 14MB download from the Android Market that requires Android 2.0 or later. 

FIR against Facebook for denigratory remarks on Hindu gods

Lucknow: Remember Nutan Thakur? The social activist, who lodged an FIR against Facebook group called "We hate Gandhi" and the profile was blocked. Now, again she has registered an FIR against the social networking site Facebook and its member for abusing Hindu religion and gods.

The FIR accused a Facebook profile of "instigating communal passions" and feared that it could lead to riots in India. The FIR was lodges under section 66 A of the Information Technology Act 2000.

The title of the Facebook profile is very provocative. A picture of three Hindu gods was placed with the title of three idiot in the place of the photograph. The comments on the profile were very offensive. People have posted anti Islam remarks on the profile along with the links of websites with abuses against Islam.

Nutan said, "Though in my complaint I have named several persons whose comments and names figure in Facebook, lot of them appear to be fake IDs." She also added that there is a `virtual riot' on the profile of Facebook members of two communities where people post the choicest of abuses against the two religions -- Hinduism and Islam.

Can Facebook be implementing stricter policies to monitor the profiles? Will Facebook be more careful on such sensitive issues? Are the accusations made on Facebook a publicity act? Social networks should used only for healthy networking then creating riots.

Bangalore: HCL Technologies has launched a range of Android-based tablet PCs in India, with prices starting from 14,990.

HCL has rolled out three Android-based tablet PCs. Two of them are 7-inch models - the HCL Me AE7-A1 and HCL Me AM7-A1. The HCL Me AE7-A1 is priced at 14,990 and is powered by an 800 MHz ARM processor. The tablet runs Froyo (Android v.2.2) and weighs 400 grams. It also features a 0.3 megapixel camera.

The Me AM7-A1 is priced at 22,990 and it comes with an inbuilt 1.3 mega pixel camera. It is lighter at 300 grams. The device offers GPS navigation and support Wi-Fi.

The HCL Me AP10-A1 has a 10-inch screen and is powered by a Cortex A9, 1GHz processor. It is heavier than the other two devices at 750 grams and supports 1080 pixel high definition videos. The HCL Me AP10-A1 is priced at 32,990.
